Our Leadership

Bashir Amani serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of American English Door, a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to English education and educational opportunities for immigrants, refugees, newcomers, and underserved communities.

Bashir is an experienced English educator with a strong background in working with adult English learners from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds. He currently teaches English in community college settings in Washington State, helping students develop the language skills they need for everyday life, employment, education, and participation in their communities.

Before coming to the United States, Bashir also worked as an English teacher for more than a decade.He has helped hundreds of English learners based in USA from literacy to to english for employment and college pathways. His experiences as an educator and community member have given him a strong understanding of the challenges many immigrants and refugees face when building a new life in the United States.

Through his work with English learners, Bashir has seen that language education is often connected to many other needs, including digital literacy, workplace communication, citizenship preparation, college preparation, and practical skills for daily life. This understanding guides his leadership of American English Door.

As President and CEO, Bashir provides organizational leadership and works with the Board of Directors to develop educational programs, community partnerships, and opportunities that expand access to learning. American English Door offers programs focused on English literacy, digital literacy, workplace English, college preparation, citizenship preparation, communication skills, and online and in-person education.

Bashir's goal is to use his experience in education and community service to help people build English skills, confidence, independence, and new opportunities for their lives.
